The Point of Sale Charge Terminal applies a keyboard computer as the charge terminal "register." A small monitor, magnetic stripe, bar code reader, or proximity reader, and (optional) receipt printer finish off the register configuration. With this configuration, employees with a Point of Sale payroll deduction account can purchase retail items and have the cost deducted from their next paycheck.

As an example, consider the Pharmacy department. In many healthcare facilities, employees can purchase medications at a discount directly from the hospital pharmacy. The Point of Sale Charge Terminal provides your Pharmacy department with a cashless alternative to traditional drug sales. Pharmacy personnel enter the charge dollar amount(s) for the items purchased, and the subtotal, sales tax (if applicable) and transaction total charge is calculated automatically. When the employee's ID badge is scanned, the charge is posted to the employees existing account for payroll deduction. All charge account and payroll reports distinguish pharmacy item charges from cafeteria food service for accounting clarity.
